A University of Minnesota team led by Professor Ramesh Harjani has been selected as the 2nd place winner of Phase 1 of the 2007-2008 SRC/SIA IC Design Challenge. The team, consisting of graduate students Martin Sturm and Jackson Harvey and senior honors student Dominic Hogan, has developed a batteryless system for a blood monitoring RFID device. Forty-seven teams from 28 universities had been selected to participate in this contest. Winners receive a cash prize and will have their designs fabricated by Jazz Semiconductor using their 180 nm SiGe technology. The first place winner was a team led by Professor Byunghoo Jung from Purdue University. Professor Jung is an alumnus of the University of Minnesota ECE department and is one of Professor Harjani's former students.
