On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, I welcome you to Graduate study at the University of Minnesota. We hope you will have a stimulating and enjoyable experience in our Department and at the University of Minnesota.

Students should take time to become familiar with the forms and exams required as part of their degree. Information on Graduate School requirements for all graduate students can be found in the Graduate School Catalog. The Electrical Engineering Graduate Program has its own list of requirements and some will be stricter than the requirements listed in the Graduate School Catalog. The stricter Department requirements are what you should follow. If there is any doubt regarding the interpretation of any policy or requirement in this Handbook, or if there are questions about the graduate program involving matters not covered in this Handbook, please contact Linda Jagerson, Assistant to the Director of Graduate Studies 612.625.3564 (e-mail: jager001@umn.edu). Linda has regular office hours in the main Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) office and she knows far more detailed information about graduate student life than I do. Much of the time she will be able to answer your questions more quickly that I can. Due to the high volume of email she receives, the telephone is the quickest way to get an answer to your question.

We trust that your years of study here will be fruitful and help expand your understanding of the research area you have embarked upon.
